Project Proposal
I am going to have my internship at Durango Family Medicine with Lisa Isenberg. It is a family
medicine practice at Mercy Regional Center. It is the number one community physician practice in La
Plata County. Their goal is to be a family friendly and provide quality healthcare. The goal is to make a
better community through this local family practice. I believe they strive to give their patients what
they need as well as keep them happy and healthy.
I am interning with Lisa Isenburg. She has sons in my school, so she had more of the inside
information on what was going on with the LINK internships. She wanted an intern from our school
and she put a request in to our director, I was ecstatic when I learned about this opportunity. I think that
she will be a great mentor because even in the early stages of our mentor/internee relationship we have
great communications skills and discuss the requirements we need to meet. She can offer me years of
nursing advice, help and guidance to becoming a phenomenal practitioner. I think she has great insight
and experience that she will teach me so I as well can become a great nurse. My mentor is a pediatric
nurse practitioner who has been in the field of nursing for many years.
My goals are more in the career goal category. I want to discover what I am good at and if
nursing is something I want to pursue in the work force. I am excited we get this opportunity to find out
what we, as high school students, find interesting and if we will like they type of work we think we are
interested in pursuing. I am finding what interests me and what is not my fortė. My main goal right
now, for my internship is to figure out if it is something I want to pursue after high school and if I am a
good fit in the medical field.
My LINK project is not completely in a concrete place. My mentor discussed a book for kids to
play with and flip through during their appointments. It will consist of old x-ray (radiology images) that
are no longer useful to physicians (because everything is going digital these days). I know that as a
child I always enjoyed looking at my old x-rays because it was fun and I think that kids always think
it's a neat thing to enjoy. I think that this will be a fun thing to enjoy. I also think that another small
project to complete, while I am interning with Durango Family Medicine, would be making a social
media profile for the practice (Ex: Twitter, Facebook, et cetera.). I think that these media pages could
help get the message to the Durango public that the practice is seeking to help patients and they want to
help locals because that is their mission.
Some obstacles that I had during search for an internship were finding a practice that would
take me on as an intern and a mentor that was interested in the mission that my school exhibits. I
secured an internship and that dissolved both of the obstacles. My mentor was searching for an intern at
my school because she was interested in the mission that Animas high school has. I am so happy with
my placement, I appreciate my mentor and her time that she is going to put into helping me. I am
feeling ecstatic about my internship. I cannot wait to see where it leads me and what the journey will
teach me.
